New Distance Driver: Innova Vulcan

What Innova Says:The Vulcan was designed for less powerful players that want to throw the shots of their dreams. Similar in flight to our Katana with less low speed fade. The Vulcan will be available in lower weights for longer shots. With weights as low as 158 grams, there is a Vulcan for everyone. One of our lightest and longest Distance Drivers available in Star plastic. Makes a great long range roller as well.

The 2010 "Morleys": Video Of The Year

With well over 4,000 more hits than its closest competitor, "Disc Golf Head Shot" takes the Video Of The Year award at the "First Annual Morleys". Caution: may be hard to watch but it's ok to laugh as the "recipient" was yours truly, mdub. Other than the drop of a few IQ points, all is well. Luckily it hit the hardest part of the body...the forehead. Although it looks staged, the "shot" was intended to fly waaaaaaaaaaay overhead.Way. Overhead.

New PDGA Rule Changes: Holing Out (803.13)

HOLING OUT: 803.13Starting in 2011, a player will not have to remove the disc to complete the process of holing out which was required under current rules. Once the group has decided the disc has come to rest, the player has holed out.

Several target related terms have been officially defined and added to the Definitions section 800 in support of the Holing Out rule. Definitions for Basket Target, Tray, Chains, Chain Support and Pole have been added.

Groups will now be responsible to make judgment calls on how discs enter the basket. Discs that attempt to enter or actually get all the way into the chains or basket thru the top of the chain support or thru the side or bottom of the basket now will not count if the group or official sees that happen. This means wedgies, most which wedge from the outside, now will not count unless it was a blind shot where no one saw how the disc wedged. Putts that are observed to properly enter the basket from above the rim and then wedge trying to get out will count as holed out like before.

These changes for holing out mean calls for the “putting tree” photo shown below that was in the Rules School story on Interference need to be updated. Under the old rules, only the yellow disc would not have been considered holed out when the player removed it. Under 2011 rules, the white and red discs are holed out (IN). The yellow disc as before and the orange disc hanging on the nub outside the basket are NOT IN. The orange disc balancing on the rim, which used to be considered IN, is now considered OUT in the 2011 rules because the disc is not entirely supported by the pole, inner wall or bottom of the basket. The orange wedgie is now NOT IN if the group observed it wedge from the outside. If the group did not see it or watched it clear the top basket wire then wedge on the way out, it is IN.

New Discraft Midrange Disc: The Hornet

What Discraft says about the Hornet.  The Hornet is a fast, overstable midrange with a longer glide than you would expect. The Hornet has a medium hard fade finish.  The Hornet will hold a line in a moderate to strong head wind and still fade at the finish.

Most users said the disc performance was between a Wasp and a Stalker, also compared as a more overstable Impact.  If you snap it, it will fly strait and flat and then fade fairly hard at the end.  Many users also had good performance on big hyzer throws when you take a high line, the disc was said to work well on thumber and tomahawk throws as well.

Available at the proshop soon. (This post is for information purposes and does not constitute a recommendation by Morley Field)

Storm Update

Sad news again at Morley. The "new" shoe tree on hole 11 has fallen and will he completely removed. Looks like dead tree+wet shoes+wind=sadness. AVOID entering the course from North Park on Pershing dr. southbound. At least one lane will be closed due to sink hole in the road.

A major tree on hole 9 is down and will effect play on hole 9 and 10.

All those with "cabin fever" charging out to play during the respite will want to "keep their head on a swivel".

Be safe!

The event was not without controversy. At the end of round-robbin play there was a 3 way tie for first. The tie breaking scenario is spelled out in the WFDF Official Rules of Flying Disc Sports. "206.04 Tie Breaking Procedures: In round-robbin play, ties in which two teams have identical win/loss records, are broken by virtue of the head-to-head match in that round. If three or more teams are tied, the following procedure is used to advance one team:
A. If one of the teams has the best record against the other teams with whom they are tied in that round, advance that team.
B.If the tie remains, rank the net point totals of each team from those games played against the other tied teams, and advance the team with the best net point total.
If another team must also be advanced, the following procedure is used:
A. If advancement must be decided between two teams which remain from a previous three team tie, the head-to-head match in that round shall be used."
San Diego got in on net point differential and Sylmar got in having beaten Huntington Beach in their preliminary round-robbin match. Huntington Beach was understandably disappointed on missing out on the finals having beaten San Diego 6 (37) vs. Huntington Beach 6 (38) in the preliminary round-robbin round.
