Trebeck:  "o.k.,  the answer is Bowling, Disc Golf, Wrestling, Junior Rodeo, Dodgeball, Horseshoes, Hotshot Basketball, Miniature Golf, Rowing and Table Tennis". Contestant: "Alex, what are the top 10  most popular sports in Santee?" Trebeck: "Yes!. We have also accepted things that EJ (from Santee) is good at.

Yet Another (bad) Disc Golf Video Game

o.k. now this is REALLY getting ridiculous… The “long” anticipated Zoo Disc Golf is now available for the Wii. That’s right, you play this HORRIFIC "game" of disc golf as a penguin, meerkat, elephant etc… Words cannot describe the anger over the loss of 1000 Wii points to “purchase” this is WiiWare downloadable game. Even my 7 year old hated it and he likes to stare at blank walls for hours on end.

Save your money for the Playstation 3 Move Controller coming out this fall. It includes a great disc golf game. We’ve seen it, we jumped for joy! ... literally

Note to Mario or Luigui - If you ever want to see Princess Peach again, meet me in the alley behind Saguaro’s Mexican food with my money back. I’m not kidding!

Disc Golf and Surfing For The Wii

Big Beach Sports 2 returns with rugby, cricket, disc golf and football. Players also participate in competitions featuring surfing, canoe, water rocket and dune buggy races in either single player mode or through multiplayer challenges, going head to head with up to four players. Additionally, players can use the Wii Balance Board to ride the waves for a full-body surfing experience. Did you hear that? Finally a surfing game to use the Wii Balanace Board. Our experience tells us to not get our hopes up but hey, its a start! Read reviews of Big Beach Sport 1 here. Watch for Disc Golf on the PS3 soon. Trust us, it will be great!

Who Really Is Number One?

It seems the more you play Morley the more people you'll meet from out of town. Thats part of the fun of the sport, meeting new players from S.D. and abroad. If you listen close enough you'll hear almost every single person inform you that "their" course was one of (if not THE) first course built in the US. If this writer had a dollar for everytime he has heard this he would have more than enough for private disc golf lessons from Micah (or maybe Feldberg). "mycoursewasfirstitis" seems to be contagious. If you are traveling away from San Diego, ba careful, you might catch it. btw... Morley IS one of the first courses built in the U.S. (lol) On that note here is an article for the new course in Thousand Oaks, CA. claiming their stake.

note - played "Rabbit Flats" 5/29/10. Small course surrounding a large hill. churned up dirt clods and dry weeds (for now). Short holes/multiple baskets. Very nice tee pads/benches. Well thought out for what land they had to work with (9 acres). If you like to play Montiel, you might like this. Will be better with upcoming landscaping. Not worth the drive from S.D. but worth checking out if you are in the area.

Ten Annoying Things - #10

Welcome to our new series highlighting annoying things that disc golfers do. Most everyone will agree on the top two or three but lets start a conversation on the rest. Number 10: "Cooler Mud" This issue seems to be embedded in the DNA of most weekend "players". Since Morley Field is one of the few courses that have benches on all the holes, this trait seems to be indigenous to Morley.

Cooler Mud (cool-er mud) Function: noun Date of Origin: Early 1970's

1: a drippy, wet, puddle of mud left on benches after one removes their cheap, leaking cooler from placement on a bench (normally used for sitting) due to cooler being dragged through dirt while "playing" disc golf.

Cause: oblivion to groups playing behind you, oblivion in general Remedy: leave your cooler on the ground.

If you have been an unwiting victim of CMB (cooler mud butt), share your story with others, that's the best way to work through it.

note - no alcohol is permitted on the course at any time

Morley Player Profile: Ryan Meyer

Ryan MeyerNicknames: Ramske PDGA# 34987 Intermediate – Advanced (soon)

Began Playing Disc Golf: I think it was 06 or 07?  I was instantly hooked and have played at courses throughout the US.  I’ve played in a few tournaments but have been more interested in having fun with the sport.  Kit Carson Park has been my baby for the last 3 years and now that the course is open, April 25 2010, I’ll get tons of practice in…..watch out Pros, I’m coming for ya!

First Disc: 175g Yellow Champion Valkyrie – This Disc has taught me quite a bit about how a disc’s flight path changes with age and the development of your game.

Favorite Hole at Morley: Without a doubt, Hole 11, position F.  Blind double mandatory!  Excellent risk-reward hole.  Great design!

Morley Field Aces: Hole 14, rocket hyzer around the trees, 170g Red Star Orc.  First Ace ever!

Favorite Disc: 171g Star Leopard – Great control disc for me, will flip over, go straight, or hyzer, depending on the speed of the spin.

Favorite Driver: 171g Star Boss –predictable flight

Favorite Midrange: 175g Star Cro – This disc is awsome!  Stable, with a predictable fade.  Great straight shooter for me.

Favorite Putter: 170g KC Pro Aviar – I’ve tried sticky floppy putters, and they don’t work for me…

In My Bag: 170g KC Pro Aviar (2x) 175g Star Cro 171g Star Leopard 175g Star TL 150g Champion Banshee (for funzies) 150g Star Classic Roc 170g Discraft Breeze 170g Champion Sidewinder 172g Champion Roadrunner 169g Star Wraith 171g Star Starfire 174g Star Firebird 170g Star Destoyer 170g Star Orc 171g Star Boss 175g Champion Valkyrie 171g Star Valkyrie

Tourney wins and / or Top 5 finishes: Check in with me once I really start playing tournaments

Favorite Disc Golf Website: PDGA.com, SanDiegoAces.com

Favorite Pro Player: Dave Feldberg – Great player, great promoter of the sport.

Tips for newer players and players looking to improve: I tell everyone that comes out to play with me for the first time that they need to give the game at least 10 tries before they decide whether or not they like it.  After that 10th round you’ll just be getting the hang of throwing the disc and I’m sure you’ll be hooked.  Like any sport, this game is really easy to learn, but will take years to master, and that’s the fun part!  During the first week of playing this sport I bought several overstable drivers and almost quit because I couldn’t throw them with any sort of consistency!  Work your way through the discs, starting with midranges, then fairway drivers, and finally to the overstable drivers so you can develop control before adding power and distance.  You’ll thank me later.
